Duolingo: is it worth the money?

Or even time?

Unfortunately, the answer is complicated: it depends! How much time do you have to dedicate to language learning? Do you want to become fluent?

I started on Duolingo years ago and continue to use it regularly. Some of the good things about it are:

It has a free version!

Duolingo has a LOT of languages

AND it’s kinda like a game?

However, there are downsides as well, such as:

The high cost of the paid version (and if you don’t get it, the ads! Ugh)

The trees are constantly updating and placing you in random spots

They took down the forums
